SDG BUSINESS FORUM 2021

Hosted on the third day of Uniting Business LIVE, 22 September, the SDG Business Forum – co-hosted by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the UN Global Compact and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) – highlights companies that are using their influence as a positive agent of change in their local communities and across the world. Now in its sixth year, the Forum is a flagship event which has transitioned well into the virtual era, securing more than 13,000 attendees from 120 countries in 2020. Past SDG Business Forums have fostered public-private dialogues, catalysed new partnerships and alliances, and explored innovative business solutions to accelerate sustainable development.

What topics will be covered?

This year’s CEO-level virtual event will incorporate the themes of several United Nations conferences, including the High-Level Dialogue on Energy, the Food Systems Summit, and the Second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference, while building momentum for the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). It will provide a platform for thought leadership, learning and meaningful connection between leaders who are committed to taking action on the goals – and willing to work within and across sectors to achieve them.

Who is invited?

Everyone, everywhere has a role to play in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and, as a gathering space for influencers and innovators, the Business Forum is no different. After a successful inaugural virtual forum in 2020, we expect more than 10,000 attendees to participate in this year’s Forum. From C-suite executives to rising professionals, leaders across the entire spectrum of the business ecosystem are invited to attend. Government officials, United Nations representatives and civil society organizations with an interest in private sector action are also welcome to participate in the program to gain inspiration and ideas for how best to collaborate with businesses to achieve shared goals.

Who is speaking?

While the 2021 program is still under development, confirmed speakers include:

John W.H. Denton AO, Secretary-General of the International Chamber of Commerce
Liu Zhenmin, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs
Sanda Ojiambo, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact

Last year’s, three Heads of State, four senior ministers, the UN Secretary-General, the UN Deputy-Secretary-General and three UN agency heads participated in our high-level program alongside over 100 CEOs.
