Brexit vs. Bremain – the business perspective
Med mindre än en månad kvar innan Storbritannien går till val för att avgöra om landet ska vara kvar i EU eller inte, bjöd ICC Sweden och Mannheimer Swartling in till seminariet ”Brexit vs. Bremain – the business perspective”. Seminariet syftade till att främja saklig debatt gällande de konsekvenser ett Brittiskt utträde ur EU kan få för näringslivet.

“The discussions being held here today are of particular importance because both sides are represented and given the opportunity to voice their positions. Discussions of this dignity have to be based on facts rather than on emotions. This is especially important in regards to the debate on TTIP and ISDS where the opponents rarely or never meet in transparent manners – which has caused a debate based on myths and falsity rather than on facts” uttryckte Susanna Zeko, tf generalsekreterare, ICC Sweden.
Seminariet inleddes med ett välkomstanförande av ICC Sveriges ordförande Fredrik Cappelen. Fredrik betonade bland annat att “it is undoubtedly true that the multiple challenges facing Europe are assisting those campaigning for Brexit, who use them as evidence as to why the UK should leave the EU”.
Efter följde anförande av John Longworth, ordförande för Vote Leave Business Council och tidigare generaldirektör för den Brittiska Handelskammaren. John lade i sitt anförande särskild vikt vid handelsavtal och uttryckte:
“…those who argue to stay in the EU say that we need to be a member to benefit from international trade deals the EU is so brilliant at. This is wrong. The idea that trade deals will fall away if UK votes to leave EU is nonsense. We are the fifth-largest economy in the world and the other countries are probably likely to want to access our market. The moment we decide to leave the EU we can start pre-negotiations with third party countries on setting up additional trade deals. I know that many Commonwealth countries and European countries would negotiate trade deals with Britain in the blink of an eye.” Snabb replik kom från Pehr Wissén, professor i finansiell ekonomi på Handelshögskolan som svarade att Storbritannien vid en Brexit inte borde vara allt för självsäkra i att politiker i andra EU-länder är givet positiva till att ingå avtal med den nation som faktiskt väljer att lämna EU och svika samarbetet.
I seminariets avslutande paneldiskussion uppmärksammades olika aspekter av en eventuell Brexit, dels av paneldeltagarna men också av starkt engarade åhörare. Ifrån panelen betonade man den osäkerhet, dels debatten inför omröstningen innebär, men också den nya dimension av osäkerhet ett utträde ur EU faktiskt skulle innebära.
”It’s hard to predict what will happen on 24 June if there is a vote to leave, everything is very uncertain…to the extent possible transactions are at the moment put on hold to await the outcome of the referendum.” sa Stephen Powell, Partner, Slaughter and May.
”Yes everything is very uncertain – but one thing that we can be sure about is that if UK votes to leave the EU, we will move from uncertainty to uncertainty, AND investments and uncertainty is NOT a happy marriage.” svarade Hans Stråberg, ordförande, Atlas Copco AB.
”For us, for our industry, for the health system and for patients the benefits of an integrated yet competitive environment are clear, with access to a single trading market, a skilled talent base, common regulatory and IP standards.” sa Jan-Olof Jacke, VD, AstraZeneca AB.
